What is Semaglutide (Wegovy)
Wegovy is the brand name for semaglutide, a drug which has been licensed and approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for the management of obesity.
Am I Eligible to be Prescribed Semaglutide (Wegovy)?
You are eligible if you meet 4 or more of the criteria below:
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
- Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
- Cardiovascular Disease (Heart Disease)
- Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
- Dyslipidaemia (Abnormal Blood Fats)
Accessing Semaglutide (Wegovy)
Locally, Wegovy will only be supplied through specialist services. This is to make sure that correct support such as diet and nutritional services are available alongside the medication.
Work is now being carried out with specialists across Kent and Medway to allow appropriate local referrals to take place. However, until arrangements and supply are confirmed, these referrals to local specialist services cannot be made.
We can, however, refer you to an online service, Oviva, should you meet the eligibility criteria above. As a specialist weight management service, Oviva is able to prescribe semaglutide.
