Health Care Assistant (HCA)
A HCA delivers and assists the clinical team in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education. Directly supported by the practice nurses, they undertake blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs and new patient checks.
Daily appointments are available.
Assistant Practitioner
An Assistant Practitioner offers the same services as a HCA, but is trained in specialised care. At Westgate Surgery, our Assistant Nurse Practitioner specialises in wound care and respiratory care.
Practice Nurse
A Practice Nurse is a registered professional. Roles include: chronic disease management (diabetes, asthma, etc.), vaccinations, contraceptive treatments, screening services (cervical smears, etc.) and specialised care reviews (mental health, cancer support, etc.). Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, they also oversee the care provided by the HCAs and Assistant Nurse Practitioners.
Daily appointments are available.
Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
An ANP is a registered professional who provides acute and routine care and, as independent prescribers, they can diagnose, prescribe and refer. Our ANPs cover the GPs annual leave, provide emergency clinics and specialise in women’s health.
First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP)
A FCP is a registered professional who provides advice and treatment relating to musculoskeletal issues such as back, neck and joint pain.
Our FCPs offer clinics twice a week.
General Practitioners (GP)
GPs treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment. Please see our ‘Appointment Guide‘ leaflet for details of clinic times for individual GPs.
